Their Journey

Head Nurse – Emergency Department, Hamad General Hospital (HGH)

Fatima Shafah, a Qatari Head Nurse at Hamad General Hospital’s Emergency Department, has always been passionate about her nursing career. She explains that this passion comes from the compassion and empathy she feels for her patients; from her commitment to being a strong advocate for her patients and her desire to help them live a better life.

In 1998, Fatima joined the School of Nursing at Qatar University. Finishing her studies and graduating in 2005, she joined Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and began her career as a Staff Nurse in the Neurosurgery Unit at HGH.

“After seven years of dedicated work and continuous personal development, I was promoted to the role of Charge Nurse at my Unit. I later moved to the Emergency Department at HGH where I was further promoted to the position of Head Nurse after completing a six-month orientation.”

Fatima says that her current role is accompanied by a great deal of responsibility; quickly adding that it is also very rewarding, especially in terms of the satisfaction she feels watching patients recover from often severe illnesses or injuries. She says she is also rewarded watching her nurses develop their skills. Proving she is a lifelong learner, Fatima is already planning further education.
