Test ID: Beta-D-Glucan
Beta-D-Glucan
Commercially available highly sensitive microplate-based assay that detects 1,3-β-D-Glucan in serum
Useful For
Aiding in the diagnosis of invasive fungal infections caused by various fungi, including Aspergillus species, Fusarium species, Candida species, and Pneumocystis jirovecii among immunocompromised and intensive care patients
Method name and description
Commercially available protease zymogen-based colorimetric assay
Clinical information
Invasive Fungal Infection (IFIs) cause severe illness in the critically ill and immunocompromised patients and are associated with high morbidity and mortality. More aggressive medical care, including immunosuppressive therapy and intensive care has greatly increased the population of patients at risk of IFI.
