​A multimodal treatment plan has been shown to be the most effective, rather than simply choosing one form of intervention. 
 
Behavior modification is used to help manage the majority of the symptoms of ADHD. Behavior modification is most successful when the child has a program for home and for school.
 
Social skills training is used to help the ADHD child to gain self awareness and learn new skills to increase his or her ability to make and keep friends. 
 
Special education and tutoring are used to increase the child's learning and success in school. Medication is used to decrease inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
