Sinuses are part of the upper respiratory structure. Very young children have sinus routes rather than entirely formed sinuses. Sinusitis can make asthma worse, particularly at night time. This kind of upper respiratory infection can require treatment with an antibiotic.
Sinus treatments usually comprise of:- Nasal irrigation (wash) — saline solution with positive pressure to clean the nasal passages thoroughly, helps remove mucus and bacteria from the nose and sinuses. It canbe helpful, when it is done routinely. For the best results nasal wash should be done prior to using a steroid nasal spray.
- Steroid nasal spray — this assists in reducing irritation and inflammation in the nasal and sinus cavities. As a result mucus production and inflammation diminishes.
- Antibiotics — an antibiotic might be suggested if a bacterial infection is present.
