Dr. Wafa Abualainin, PhD
Dr. Wafa is a Clinical Scientist and Head of Solid Tumor Diagnostic Genomics Division, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) in Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the main healthcare provider in the State of Qatar. She is Assistant Professor – Clinical Domain in Qatar University.
Dr. Wafa has obtained her 1st degree from Qatar University in 2004 and directly joined HMC in the molecular genetics' laboratory. In addition, she completed her PhD in Cancer Studies - Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine in the University of Liverpool-UK in 2014.
Dr. Wafa has published consistently through her career in respected peer-reviewed journals and constantly developed her skills and maintain her knowledge by continuing specialized education and training in highly recognized institute including University Health Network – Toronto-Canada and Harvard Medical School.
Her experience enables her to apply advanced genomic technologies to diagnostics very successfully. In a brief period, Dr. Wafa established a new discipline in the genomic division, the Molecular Testing of multiple solid tumors. Moreover, she was the first to introduce the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in clinical services. This diagnostic service constitutes a clear step toward precision medicine and is being offered for the first time in Qatar. Availability of in-house diagnostic service helped and has a significant impact on healthcare and personalized management of cancer patients.
