Prof. David Jones is a biologist, whose research focuses on the application of cutting-edge genomics techniques to both basic and translational research in the field of pediatric neurooncology.
He studied at the University of Cambridge, graduating with a PhD in 2009. He subsequently joined the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany to work on the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) PedBrain Tumor sequencing project, where he played an integral role in project leadership and biological interpretation of next-generation sequencing data.
Now working as group leader for Pediatric Glioma Research within the Hopp Children’s Cancer Center, Heidelberg (KiTZ) and the DKFZ, he is continuing to work on integrative genomic and epigenomic analyses of pediatric gliomas using NGS approaches. The identification of novel molecular tumor classes and modelling of identified alterations for pre-clinical screening is an increasingly important part of the group’s work. In addition, David is coordinating two international personalised oncology projects, INFORM and MNP2.0, using the latest technologies to improve diagnostic accuracy and to identify novel treatment approaches for pediatric cancer patients.
