Dr. Khalid Hussain 

Dr. Hussain qualified from the University of Glasgow (Scotland UK) and trained in neonatology, metabolic medicine and endocrinology at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London UK and in Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne Australia. His research interests focus on understanding the molecular mechanisms of hypoglycaemia, rare types of diabetes mellitus, monogenic obesity and understanding the developmental biology of the pancreas. He has published extensively (400 peer reviewed publications in journals such as NEJM, Science, Nature Genetics, PNAS, JCI, EMBO and Diabetes) in the area of glucose physiology. His research has been funded by the Wellcome Trust, the Medical Research Council (MRC), Great Ormond Hospital Children’s Charity, The Biomedical Research Centre, Diabetes UK and the European Union (total grant income 10M pounds so far). Prior to joining Sidra, he was the GOSHCC (Great Ormond Street HOSPITAL Children’s Charity) Professor in Pediatric Metabolic Endocrinology at The Institute of Child Health, University College London (UCL) and Honorary Consultant Pediatric Endocrinologist at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. His currently working in Sidra Medicine in Qatar and is the Division Chief of Pediatric endocrinology.
