Dr. Hassoun completed his residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine & Endocrinology at Brown University & the Mayo Clinic, respectively. After 3 years of extensive clinical and research fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, USA, he joined the Endocrinology staff there.

Dr. Hassoun is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology. In addition, he is an active member of: American Diabetes Association (ADA), the Endocrine Society (ES), and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE). His previous appointments included: Chief of Endocrinology, Clinical Assistant Professor at Wayne State University in Michigan and the faculty of Medicine, UAE University. Before joining Fakeeh University Hospital, and for more than 12 years he worked as a senior Consultant Endocrinologist, and Chairman of Research & Medical Education at the Dubai Diabetes Center. 

Dr. Hassoun was the founding and the 1st President of the AACE Gulf Chapter, which was established in 2012. His idea of establishing endocrine review courses by AACE GC was welcomed, accepted and supported by the board. He co-directed and chaired the 1st, in 2015, AACE Gulf Endocrine Review  Course and co-directed the same course in 2016. This course had been rated highly by the junior and senior endocrinologists in our gulf countries as well as in the MENA region. 

He is also an advisor to the board of directors of The Gulf Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes (GAED) that was established in 2020.

Dr. Hassoun has been an invited speaker to many local, regional and international meetings. He received several awards including the 2019 “Ibn Sina Distinguished Service Award” the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists - Gulf Chapter. He has authored and coauthored more than 50 articles and abstracts in the field of diabetes and in the other areas of Endocrinology.
