 Joined HMC 1986 and worked mainly in cardiac anesthesia till 1996.

 1996 to 2012 medical director and head of anesthesia and intensive care unit in Alsalam heart center in Aleppo, Syria.

 2012 rejoined HMC as head of HGH anesthesia section.

 2020 chairman of anesthesia department.

Dr. Alkhelaifi was part of the inaugural class of Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar. She then pursued General Anesthesia Residency training at New York Presbyterian (NYP) Hospital. She spent time training not only at NYP, but also in its affiliated institutions: Hospital for Special Surgery, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital. Following residency, she pursued pediatric anesthesia fellowship training at Harvard’s Boston Children’s Hospital. Currently she is part of the pediatric anesthesia team at HMC with an exclusive pediatric practice.

Dr. Shallik had his residency training in Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University in Egypt, and joined Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar. He has special interest in airway management and head and neck anesthesia, both adult and pediatric patients and complex airway cases. His passion is in education and teaching next generations of anesthesiologists about difficult airway management.

In 2015, he ran the first airway course and workshop at Qatar Robotic Surgery Center. In 2018, he opened the Difficult Airway Clinic at Ambulatory Care Center (ACC), Doha. This helped formulate a clinical pathway for complex head and neck cases.

Dr. Hammad leads the anesthesia team in HMC, Qatar for Solid Organ Transplant, HPB, advanced anesthesia service. He has many administrative duties in departmental and hospital research, privileges, equipment, and education committees. He published many research articles, book chapters, and quality improvement projects. With his colleagues, Dr. Hammad shared the inauguration of the liver transplant service in Qatar.

Dr. M. Faisal Malmstrom

Dr. Malmstrom did his basic medical training leading to an MD at University of Lund in Sweden and continued to do his specialist training within Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at the University Hospitals in Malmo and Lund. 

After five years as Senior Clinical Lecturer and Consultant at Otago University in Dunedin, New Zealand, he returned to the Middle East as a Senior Consultant in Critical Care at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi. In early 2011, he was appointed Senior Consultant at HMC, and is currently the Director of Surgical Critical Care, and Deputy Director of the HMC’s Critical Care Center.  Dr. Malmstrom is also the Chair of the Hamad General Hospital’s Ethics Committee.  

His main interests within Critical Care Medicine are application of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool and interventional aid, percutaneous tracheotomy, treatment of Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome, management of the difficult airway and treatment and investigation of anaphylaxis. He also has an interest in ECMO, Transport of the Critical Ill Patient and Practical Ethics in Critical Care.

Dr. Khalil Shibli

Dr Shibli graduated from Pakistan (1984) and received Anesthesia training (CCST 2000) in the United Kingdom. He received pain training and diploma (2002) from University of Wales Cardiff (UK). In addition to the UK, Dr Shibli has extensive administrative and practical anesthesia working experience in several countries like Singapore, Pakistan, and Gulf region. He is actively involved with international educational network and provide credence to many courses and workshops by inputting principles of learning and educational psychology theories in action. 

His main interest is in medical education research and creating stable and sustainable learning environments. His interest in airway comes from creating novel methods to learn not only practical skills of airway management but to apply cognitive skills to master difficult and challenging situations. His believes in the fact that developing airway skills management workshops and courses require cognitive task analysis approach. Simple to complex airway management requires manipulation of learned skills through clinical and simulated environment with transfer of knowledge from the workshops to workplace, a much-needed approach to close the loop of learning. 

Dr. Shibli is instrumental in enriching our airway skills teaching workshops at HMC and the learners benefit from his lateral and critical thinking skills in managing airway in practice.

Dr. Ahmed graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum (Sudan). He received his higher training in Anesthesia and Intensive Care in Ireland, where he worked as a Consultant Anesthetist and Intensivist till he joined HMC in 2015.



Dr. Kaled El-Nagar
MBBCh, FRCA, EDRA, CREPGC

He graduated with honors from Tripoli Medical College in 1999. And received the fellowship of the Royal College of Anesthetists (FRCA) in 2008. Dr. El-Nagar finished his anesthetic training in Northern Deanery, UK in 2015 and received the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Anesthesia with special interest in regional and vascular anesthesia. Since then, He has worked as a consultant in the UK and was the lead in trauma, orthopedic and regional anesthesia before moving to Qatar and joining HMC. He also received an European diploma in Regional Anesthesia (EDRA) in 2013, and a Certificate in Research and Evidence-Based Medicine (CREPGC)  (with distinction) in 2017 from Teesside University.

He is a skillful surgeon with extensive training in advanced head and neck surgery and
airway management.

His multinational training background contributes to his ability to adapt and handle new situations with comfort. 



Prof. Takahiro Oto
Senior Consultant, HMC, Doha, Qatar and Director of Lung Transplant in Hamad General Hospital. 

Prof. Takahiro was promoted to a Professor and Director of Organ Transplant at Okayama University Japan in 2015. He focused on invention of new surgical methods and one of them is named "Oto Procedure". He has contributed to establish new lung transplant service other than Japan, including in Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Qatar.

He also has participated in post-transplant airway management.




Dr. Hazim Kassas, MD

Dr. Kassas MD is currently a senior consultant at Hamad General Hospital which is a part of Hamad Medical Corporation. He is board-certified in Anesthesia and Pain Management since 2008 from Homburg University Hospital Germany. 

He became a senior consultant in the fields of organ transplantation especially liver and lung in the university of Saarland Germany. He works as Deputy Director of Anesthesia in the Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Hospital of Saarland. 

He has participated in many research projects in his hospital and always shows significant interest in research and teaching programs for post graduate residents.
