Welcome
Dear colleagues,
Sepsis continues to be a major danger to patients and globally remains a leading cause of death in hospitals. While a lot of good work has been done to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment – the evidence suggests that there is still insufficient understanding about sepsis management and diagnosis is often made too late in many patients.
Sepsis - challenges and controversies
Sepsis is the tenth leading cause of death in industrialized countries, and the leading cause of death in the intensive care unit (ICU).
It represents a major burden on the medical care system. Direct costs in ICU patients with these conditions in Germany amount to around five billion Euros each year.
