Welcome Message

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is estimated to affect more than 850 million people worldwide and resulted in over 3.1 million deaths in 2019. Presently, kidney disease ranks as the 8th leading cause of death, and if left unaddressed, it is projected to be the 5th leading cause of years of life lost by 2040.

World Kidney Day is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of our kidneys. HMC’s Nephrology Department has being World Kidney Day campaigns and educational activities for more than 10 years.

The World Kidney Day (WKD) Steering Committee has announced the 2024 WKD campaign theme: Kidney Health for All - Advancing Equitable Access to Care and Optimal Medication Practice

Recent medical advances have significantly slowed CKD progression and reduced complications. However, disparities in accessing these advancements persist.

The 2024 campaign aims to increase awareness of these inequalities and encourage collaborative strategies to improve access to suitable treatment for those with kidney disease.

On behalf of our Nephrology Division and our World Kidney Day scientific planning committee, I am pleased to invite you to join in the World Kidney Day Symposium to be held on 8th and 9th March 2024.

We have invited excellent international speakers to give us updates on preventive behaviours, awareness about risk factors, and awareness about how to live with a kidney disease. We do this because we want kidney health for all.

Note: World Kidney Day is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF).
