Background

Establishing a sustainable Safety Culture Program in Healthcare

After the finalization of an IRPA’s publication on ‘Guiding Principles on Radiation Protection Culture’, IRPA, IOMP and WHO launched a joint project on Radiation Safety Culture in Healthcare, open to national / regional and international partners. The purpose of the project is to collect feedback from key stakeholders for the development of a framework document on establishment and maintenance of a Radiation Safety Culture in Health Care (RSCHC). The proposed document is intended to help the medical profession, with the engagement of patients, to establish and maintain a safety culture in medicine, as part of a sustainable safety culture program in healthcare. A first regional workshop for Latin American countries was organized in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in April 2015, a second one for European countries in Geneva, Switzerland in December 2015 and a third one for African countries in Stellenbosch, South Africa, in November 2016. Each of them was an opportunity to collect feedback for the preparation of this framework document. This fourth regional workshop organized in Doha, Qatar is aimed to collect feedback from Middle East. More workshops are planned to be held during 2017 and 2018 in other regions of the world.

Fourth Regional Workshop on Rschc for Middle East Countries

This 4th Regional Workshop on RSCHC for Middle East countries is jointly organized by the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA), the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP), and the World Health Organization (WHO), in cooperation with the Middle East Federation of Organizations of Medical Physics (MEFOMP), and the Hamad Medical Corporation. In order to stimulate reflection it will be structured around a number of invited plenary presentations combined with facilitated breakout sessions in small groups. After the presentation of the results to the plenary, a general discussion will be held to get a common understanding about key elements and principles for establishing and maintaining a radiation safety culture in healthcare and how they can be better reflected in a framework document.
