Sue Gullo, RN, BSN, MS, Director, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), brings more than 33 years of health care experience to IHI. For the past nine years, she has been focused on leading and directing organizations across multiple improvement work streams. She has also led the IHI Perinatal Improvement Community since 2004, the longest-running continuous perinatal safety collaborative in the US and internationally. Ms. Leavitt Gullo's areas of expertise include maternal-child health and patient safety, but her nursing experience also includes oncology and medical-surgical nursing. She was elected to the Association of Women's Health, Obstetrical, and Neonatal Nursing board of directors in 2014 and is a member of multiple national maternal-child health advisory committees. Previously, Ms. Leavitt Gullo was Director of Women's Services at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH. She feels fortunate to have been at the beginning of the movement for patient safety, which continues to be the focus of her work at IHI.
