Prof Sibal helped set up the first successful liver transplant program in India in 1998 at Apollo Hospitals, Delhi. In 2012, 1200 solid organ transplants in children and adults (840 kidney and 360 liver) were performed. The Apollo Transplant Program thus became the first transplant program in the world to perform more than 1000 transplants in a year and Apollo Delhi the busiest transplant centre in the world by performing 813 transplants (269 liver, 544 kidney). The Apollo Transplant Program remained the busiest program in the world in 2013 by performing 1456 transplants (390 liver, 1066 kidney) and Apollo Delhi the busiest center with 952 transplants (283 liver, 669 kidney). The year 2014 saw continuing growth of the program with 1547 (422 Liver and 1125 Kidney) transplants being performed across the Group, with Delhi performing 1065 (304 Liver and 761 Kidney) transplants. Thus, Apollo Delhi continued to remain the busiest solid organ transplant center in the world for the 3rd consecutive year.
In June 2005, he helped achieve the First International Accreditation of a hospital in India by Joint Commission International (JCI). Eight Apollo Hospitals are accredited by JCI. Prof. Sibal served as the only Asian JCI Physician Surveyor from January 2008 to 2010. He currently is a member, Asia - Pacific Advisory Council of JCI.
Prof. Sibal was appointed as the Group Medical Director of the Apollo Hospitals Group in 2005. Apollo Hospitals Group has 65 hospitals and a strong presence in tertiary care, secondary care, primary care, health insurance, IT, education, research, project consultancy, pharmacy retailing and telemedicine.
Prof. Sibal was appointed as a Honorary Clinical Professor at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia in May 2015. Prof. Sibal is a member of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Advisory Committee. He served as an Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia from 2009 - 2015. He served as a member of the Institute Body (IB) of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, (PGIMER) Chandigarh from 2009 - 2014. IB is the highest decision making body of PGIMER headed by the Union Cabinet Minister for Health.
Prof Sibal is on the Editorial Board of 3 Journals and has 98 publications. He has edited a Textbook of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. He has served on the Executive Council of the International Pediatric Transplant Association, The Asian Pan Pacific Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and the Commonwealth Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition and has lectured extensively in India and abroad.
