Dr. Anand Kartha is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar and Senior Consultant Medicine at Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Qatar, where he focuses on improving inpatient healthcare quality and safety. Dr. Kartha completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Mercy, a General Internal Medicine Fellowship and a Masters in Health Services Research at Boston University. The American Board of Internal Medicine has certified him in Internal Medicine with Focused Practice In Hospital Medicine. Prior to joining Hamad Medical Corporation, he served as Associate Chief for Quality and Performance at the VA Boston Healthcare System, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University, and Lecturer at Harvard Medical School.
At Hamad Medical Corporation, with a multi-disciplinary team, he has successfully implemented inpatient programs including Hospital Medicine, Acute Medical Units, Co-management programs with surgical subspecialties, Multi-Disciplinary Teams, RRT, Team-based Case Managers, Post-acute care services, Flow management, Data Dashboards, key performance indicators and enterprise-wide quality programs. This has delivered measurably improved inpatient access, efficiency, and effectiveness, shortened length of stay, enhanced patient satisfaction and staff experience, trainee education and contributed to the successful control of the COVID-19 pandemic in Qatar.
He has received numerous clinical and teaching awards including the David Littman Award for Excellence In Patient Care and Education at VA Boston. He has developed various curriculums in healthcare quality that have been recognized as a "best practice" by the Joint Commission. Dr. Kartha's research relates to healthcare quality and patient safety and he has published and presented his work in multiple international settings. He is a former Assistant Editor of the Journal of Hospital Medicine. He is a Senior Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine. He has received several awards for his successful leadership in improving healthcare quality in the U.S. and Qatar. He is the founder President of the Middle East chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine.
