The main Burns Unit for the State of Qatar is at Al Wakra Hospital. The Unit is situated over two floors, the first and the fourth. The first floor has a 12 bed capacity and one operating room and provides emergency, acute and surgical care.
The fourth floor houses the 11-bed inpatient ward, which focuses on minor burns, rehabilitative and long-term inpatient care. The Units treat patients with all types of burn injuries. Non burn injuries, like Steven Johnson’s syndrome, toxic epidermonecrolysis etc., are not treated by the Burns Units Both units also treat cases requiring chronic burn-related management and rehabilitation and patients who need plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgeries, as clinically appropriate.
The operating room is dedicated to receive and care for burns patients requiring surgical interventions during working hours. Care provision covers acute and reconstructive burn surgery.
All burn patients should have been triaged at the Emergency Department of one of the Hamad Medical Corporation hospitals (Hamad General Hospital, Al Khor Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital or The Cuban Hospital) prior to referral for acute admission.
