Education
- A medical degree from an accredited school of medicine and board certification recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties or a comparable organization in another country of a similar status is acceptable to HMC.
Experience and Skills
- Scholarly activity in research in a metabolic disease state(s) evidenced by his/her list of publications
- Past experience as a leader of a research enterprise or lab
- Demonstrated knowledge and interest in the obesity or diabetes field preferred
- Track record of successful collaboration with researchers and clinicians in other disciplines
Responsibilities
- Create diabetic centers, similar in scope to the existing diabetes center, in other locations, as well as for other metabolic disease states
- Develop clinical and research programs that address difficult problems for the Qatar populations, including the prevalence of obesity and diabetes, metabolic disease in women, and metabolic bone disease
- Promote a continued focus on research in diabetes that encompasses clinical and translational research
- Develop an obesity center as a priority, employing a weight management multi-disciplinary team approach, where internal medicine specialists and primary care physicians work together with psychologists, dieticians and fitness experts to drive lifestyle behavioral changes or refer morbidly obese patients for bariatric surgery, as indicated
- Create centers of excellence for each disease state and align them within the Institute to maximize their effectiveness and efficiency
- Facilitate international partners and continue proposed collaborations with The Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard University and The Institute of Metabolic Science, Cambridge University
- Foster training and education of diabetes clinical professionals and investigators
- Further the field of research in diabetes and other metabolic disorders
