Test ID: IH HBME1
Mesothelial Cell
Immunohistochemistry Stain
Useful For
Aid in the diagnosis of mesotheliomas. Also good in papillary thyroid carcinoma.
Method name and description
- Monoclonal Anti-Mesothelial Cell, clone HBME-1 (anti-HBME-1)
- Immunoperoxidase stain on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue section
Clinical information
Anti-HBME-1 reacts with an antigen present in the microvillous surface of mesothelioma cells. Anti-HBME-1 has been demonstrated to immunostain the membrane and cytoplasm of normal pleural and peritoneal mesothelial cells and of neoplastic epithelial mesothelioma cells. Although both the membrane and cytoplasm of epithelial mesothelioma cells stain positive with HBME-1, the thick membrane staining pattern was found to be a more diagnostically useful marker of malignant mesothelioma. Other normal and malignant tissues detailed in the Performance characteristics section have also been reported to be immunoreactive with HBME-1.
