Biological reference intervals and clinical decision values

No reference

Titer < 1:80   Negative (Considered Negative)

Titer < 1:160  Non significant reaction (Repeat after 2-3 weeks)

Titer ≥1:160  Significant reaction, presumption of an active infection, considered

                    positive

Factors affecting test performance and result interpretation

Certain serums, whose antibody concentration is very high, can give rise to a pro-zone phenomenon (with disappearance of the clouding) in the initial dilutions, which disappears in the subsequent dilutions.

Turnaround time / Days and times test performed / Specimen retention time
