Test ID: Marginal Zone Panel by FISH
Marginal Zone Panel by FISH
Marginal Zone Lymphoma (MZL) by FISH test.
Method name and description

Interphase Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (I-FISH) study.

Clinical information

Marginal Zone Lymphoma (MZL) includes  two lymphoid neoplasms: an extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT lymphoma) and nodal MZL; the previous is more common than the last mentioned and affects the GI tract, while MZL affects peripheral lymph nodes predominately.

FISH test is outlined by specific target probes that detect the most significant abnormalities in MZL. Swerdlow et al. 2008). FISH studies complement the chromosome analysis, particularly when analyzing the abnormal clone pertaining to relapse and progression, or when the specimen quantity is insufficient for chromosomal analysis.

Factors affecting test performance and result interpretation

Marginal zone lymphomas (MZL) are a type of B cell neoplasms with variable clinical traits. The clinicopathologic entities incorporate Extra Nodal Marginal Zone MALT lymphoma, Nodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma (MZL), and splenic marginal zone lymphoma (MZL).

The MZL FISH panel includes:

 1) IGH/MALT1 - t(14;18)

 2) IGH -(14q32)

 3) BCL6 - (3q27)

 4) IGH/CCND1 -t(11;14)

 5) BIRC3/MALT1 (aka API2/MALT1) - t(11;18).
