Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry, Institute of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences, School of Medicine, Cardiff University, Wales, UK; Visiting Professor, Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford, UK; Elected Trustee, Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Nick studied sciences at Cambridge, medicine in Birmingham and psychiatry and genetics in Birmingham, Cardiff and St Louis. Nick specializes in, and leads research into, diagnosis and management of mood and psychotic illness. Nick is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a Fellow of the UK’s Academy of Medical Sciences. He was the first Director of Wales’ National Centre for Mental Health, Past President of the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics and is the Honorary Treasurer of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He is editorials editor of the British Journal of Psychiatry. Nick has published over 400 scientific papers, was awarded the Stromgren medal for psychiatric research in 2011 and an Honorary doctorate from Birmingham University in 2014. He is Scientific Advisor to Bipolar UK and advised BBC Eastenders on their bipolar storyline.
