Title: Point of care ultrasound – hands on workshop (Part 1)

Target audience: Physicians and residents only (Maximum 30 Participants)

Learning objectives: At the end of this workshop participants will have learnt:

1. How to generate and interpret bedside ultrasound images?

2. Sono - Anatomy and basic principles of physics and knobology.

3. Integrate Ultrasound findings with clinical presentation.

4. Detection of free fluid in the abdomen, diagnose pneumo-thorax & pleural effusion at bed side.

5. Estimate ejection fraction (EF) and diagnose pericardial effusion.

Methods: It is didactics and hands-on sessions in groups of 5 candidates per station.

Title: Diabetes care: from A to Z

Target audience: Physicians, residents and pharmacists

Learning objectives: At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

1. Appreciate individualized glucose targets for different patient populations with diabetes

2. Recognize the optimum use of different pharmacological agents for the management of hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes

3. Understand algorithms for management of blood pressure and lipids in diabetes

4. Realize strategies for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in diabetes

5. Identify aspects of periodic examination and screening tests for early detection of complications of diabetes

Title: Tips on passing the MRCP-PACES Exam (Stations 2 and 4)   

Target audience: Physicians and residents.

Learning objectives: At the end of this workshop participants will have learnt the tips on the skills required for stations 2 and 4 of PACES exam.

Methods: The workshop focus on the examination technique and what is expected in the examination. It is presented in simulating exam format and breakdown of scoring and feedback at the end of scenarios are provided by senior PACES examiners.

Target audience: Physicians, residents, nurses and other allied health care who will need to use ECG in clinical practice.

1. Basic rules of ECG.

2. Identify common brady/ tachy arrhythmias and will

3. Know how to respond to an unwell patient until more senior help arrives.

1. Review basics rules of ECG and different brady/ tachy arrhythmias.                    

2. Interactive clinical scenario to recognizing Arrhythmias and how to respond to them quickly and positively.

It will also help reiterate the incorporation of clinical pathways made by internal medicine in decision making. This can serve as a benchmark for developing a "Choosing Wisely-Qatar campaign" to help deliver high value care in Qatar.

Methods: The workshop will be conducted in the form of interactive case simulations related to high value care with subsequent analysis and discussion.

Title:Antimicrobial Resistance: from laboratory to the clinical practice

Target audience: For physicians, residents of all grades from all medical specialties as well as emergency department, microbiologists, clinical pharmacists, non-clinical pharmacists and nurses. 

Objectives: To discuss: the role of microbiologists in combat antimicrobial resistance, and the current local stewardship activity and its effectiveness.

Learning objectives: At the end of this workshop participants would have learnt:

1. Antibiotic stewardship and how it helps to prevent antibiotic resistance and problems associated with antibiotic use.

2. The practical aspects of stewardship.

3. New and emerging diagnostic technologies for infectious diseases, with a focus on bacterial detection and drug resistance testing.

4. Rapid diagnostic tests and the impact of rapid results on management of antibiotics therapy.
