Dr. Mortada earned a master’s degree in Ophthalmology in 1981 and was appointed as an assistant lecturer and a faculty member in the Department of Ophthalmology at Cairo University. Mortada earned an MD degree in Ophthalmology in 1985. In 1986, Dr. Mortada joined the Illinois University for a Retina fellowship in the department of Ophthalmology and had the pleasure of working with Professor Dr. Gholam Peyman.
In 1990 he returned to Cairo and was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology. In 1995, Dr. Mortada earned a professor degree in Ophthalmology. Mortada is a board member at the Egyptian Ophthalmologic Society and the Egypt Vitreo-retinal Society. On an international level, Dr. Mortada is a board member at the European Vitreo-retina Society.
He is involved in many scientific programs and is working closely with national societies to develop a comprehensive Retina education in national conferences, these include Romania, Jordan, Syria, Qatar, Brazile, Greece, Russia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
