This role is important for the important safety and quality agenda at HMC. The HMC Best Care Always Campaign is supported by the US Institute of Health Improvement (IHI) which has been active internationally on such major initiatives, including the successful Scottish Patient Safety Initiative in the UK. The Vice-Chair for Safety and Quality Improvement will have a key role in leading this initiative for obstetrics and gynaecology at Women’s Hospital and will contribute where appropriate on the same issues at the three partner secondary care hospitals.
The Vice-Chair will have clinical specialty or subspecialty expertise within obstetrics and gynaecology. The clinic commitment of the post will be aligned to balance the clinical interests and the importance of having an adequate time allocation for this leadership role.
Job Description
This role is important for leadership in minimising adverse outcomes by addressing safety issues and implementing lessons learned and quality initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordination of Morbidity and Mortality review process
- Oversight of the Complaints process; receiving input from the Consultant Lead for Complaints
- Oversight of Joint Commission International (JCI) compliance
- Lead for implementation of recommendations from Corporate Adverse Medical Outcomes Committee (AMOC) and other investigations
- Lead on Institute of Health Improvement (IHI) Initiatives
- Collaborate with Partners International team on safety and service quality development
- Where appropriate have oversight of safety and quality implementation at the three HMC secondary care hospitals in cooperation with the relevant Leads at these Hospitals
