Michael Leonard, MD, is a Principal at Safe and Reliable Healthcare, a group that works in patient safety, quality, and organizational learning. Previously, he was the Co-Chief Medical Officer of Pascal Metrics. He has also served as the National Physician Leader for Patient Safety for Kaiser Permanente and as Chief of Anesthesia, Chief of Surgical Services, and Chairman of the Board of Directors for Kaiser Permanente Colorado. A cardiac anesthesiologist, Dr. Leonard has worked with the University of Texas Human Factors Research Project to incorporate human factors lessons from other high-risk industries into medical patient safety. Dr. Leonard has been a faculty member of IHI for many years and teaches in the IHI Patient Safety Executive Development Program.
