Dr. Ron Wyatt

Dr. Ronald M. Wyatt, M.D., MHA, was appointed as Chief Quality Officer at Hamad Medical Corporation and Director of Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute (HHQI) in October 2016, where his remit is to enhance and promote strategic quality improvement and patient safety goals throughout the Corporation.
Dr. Wyatt was previously engaged as Medical Director of the Healthcare Improvement Division and Patient Safety Officer at The Joint Commission since September 2012. His role was to promote quality improvement and patient safety to internal and external stakeholders. He worked to influence public policy and legislation to promote improvements in patient safety and was lead information and education resource for patient safety within The Joint Commission. He previously also collaborated on development of National Patient Safety Goals, guide the formulation and issuance of Sentinel Event Alerts, provide the Office of Quality and Patient Safety team with medical expertise during the review of patient safety events, and provided oversight of data management and analyses of the Sentinel Event Database.
Dr. Wyatt has 20-plus years of clinical experience from a wide variety of settings, including academia, the Veterans Administration, the U.S. military, federally funded community health centers and private practice.
He was a George W. Merck Fellow with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), 2009-2010, where he received intensive training in performance improvement, measurement, epidemiological and statistical principles. Dr. Wyatt served on the FDA Drug Safety Oversight Board, and the Comprehensive Unit Based Safety Program to Prevent Health Care Associated Infections (CUSP) Technical Expert Panel. He was previously Director of the Patient Safety Analysis Center U.S. Department of Defense Military Health System.
Dr. Wyatt was a mentor to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center Innovation Advisors program. Dr. Wyatt holds a Bachelor's Degree in from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a Medical Degree and Master of Science in Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham's School of Medicine. He completed his Residency and was Chief Resident at St. Louis University Group Hospitals in St. Louis, Missouri, and is board certified in Internal Medicine.
