Hossein Gharib, MD, MACP, MACE
Hossein Gharib, a native of Iran, received his M.D. degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1966, and completed internal medicine residency and fellowship in endocrinology & metabolism at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He joined the Mayo Clinic staff in 1972 and was promoted to the rank of Professor of Medicine in 1994.
Dr Gharib, a recognized authority on thyroid disorders, has published more than 200 papers and 3 textbooks, including the “Thyroid Nodule” in 2017. He has lectured at more than 350 national or international endocrine events and has served as an editorial board member for many journals including JCEM, Thyroid, Endocrine Practice, Acta Endocrinologica (Buc), & U.S. Endocrinology.
He has received numerous awards & honors, and was the recipient of the AACE H. Jack Baskin, MD, Endocrine Teaching Award in 2018. In 2015, he was awarded doctorate honoris causa from Carol Davila University of Medicine in Bucharest, Romania. He is past president of American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American College of Endocrinology, and American Thyroid Association.
