An interactive workshop for nurses with an interest in developing knowledge and skills in the management of diabetes.
Introduction:
This interactive, practice management workshop will broaden your knowledge about diabetes medication and equip you with the skills to manage people with diabetes in the work place. This is a rolling program. Each session is the same and will be repeated at 1.5 hourly interval.
Program:
Session 1
Registration: 8am to 9.30am for the first group of nurses
- Introduction to the session - 5 minutes
- Diabetes Medications. Oral hypoglycemic agents and injectable therapies - 30 minutes
- Insulin and injection technique -25 minutes
- The treatment and management of hypoglycemia - 30 minutes
Session 2:
Registration: 9.45am to 10.15 am
- Introduction to the session - 5 minutes
- Diabetes Medications. Oral hypoglycemic agents and injectable therapies - 30 minutes
- Insulin and injection techniques - 25 minutes
- The treatment and management of hypoglycemia - 30 minutes
Break: 11.45am to 12.15pm
Session 3
Registration: 12.15pm to 12.45pm
- Introduction to the session - 5 minutes
- Diabetes Medications. Oral hypoglycemic agents and injectable therapies - 30 minutes
- Insulin and injection technique - 25 minutes
- The treatment and management of hypoglycemia - 30 minutes
Finish 1.45pm
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon concluding this workshop the participant will be able to:
1. Integrate knowledge, skills and judgment in order to deliver competent and safe nursing care to patients with diabetes
2. Understand medication and administration for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
3. Assess patients requiring injectable therapy.
4. Effectively practice safe injection technique
5. Recognise signs, symptoms and effectively treat hypoglycemia
