Austin Ugwumadu Ph.D., FRCOG

Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist, & former Director of Women’s Services at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation in London. 

His clinical & research interests include intrapartum fetal monitoring, hypoxia-inflammation interactions, and fetal brain injury. Austin was Scientific editor for British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Global Library of Women’s Health (Infections Section) for 10 years (2007 to 2017) and he is ex-President of the European Society for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics & Gynecology (UK). 

He belongs to international bodies dedicated to improving intrapartum fetal monitoring including the FIGO Expert Group on Fetal Monitoring, Intrapartum Fetal Monitoring Group (of European Association of Perinatal Medicine), Fetal and Neonatal Physiological Society (FNPS), and Fetal Signal Processing and Monitoring Group (SPaM). Austin regularly undertakes commissioned reviews of adverse incidents in maternity units in the UK and overseas.
