Dr. Abdulsalam Al Qahtani, MBBCh, CABS, ORL-HNS
Dr. Abdulsalam is the Head of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery section since a decade at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). Additionally, he holds several honorary positions such as assistant professor of Clinical Otolaryngology at Weill Cornell Medical College, Qatar and Qatar University, College of Medicine. He received his MBChB degree from the University of Cairo School of Medicine and joined HMC as an intern and later as an ENT resident. He was keen on developing education and nurtured the ENT training program and was appointed as a Program Director in 2005. The program went on to be a competent ACGME-I accredited program in the Middle East under his leadership and guidance. He served as the Vice chairman of Arab board of health specialization for ORL- HNS for several years and a Faculty member of the Diplomas of Clinical Audiology and Vestibular Rehabilitation in Hamad Medical Corporation and Toronto University.
As a Head of the ORL-HNS section at HMC, Dr. Qahtani has created sub-specialization in the section which provides the best possible care to the patients by sub-specialized doctors. Besides, he has expanded the capacity of practice and has developed a head and neck team and a skull base team. They are doing advanced surgeries of international standards. He has also developed and is leading the cochlear implant program in the institution. As an active researcher himself with several publications in reputed journals, he has developed the research team in his section and organized research orientation and several lecture sessions. The team has successfully published in top peer-reviewed journals of high impact factors and participated in several national and international conferences. He is the editor of Textbook of clinical Otolaryngology which is an easy-to-understand text for trainee and junior doctors for their day-to-day practice and preparation for board examinations.
Apart from being a busy clinician in the Otology sub-specialty, his work in humanitarian is notable. He is as a member of the Board of Directors at Qatar Red Crescent and the Haj Mission Committee since 2005 which he headed for a considerable time. He also oversees several of QRC's medical centers and other vital medical committees, including QRC's Emergency Standing Committee. Dr. Al-Qahtani has also held many health educational programs and was a presenter and a guest at several medical education television programs.
