Dr. Walid Othman AbouGalala

Dr. AbouGalala is a consultant of Emergency and Disaster Medicine at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) since 1998. Currently, he is the Executive Director for Major Incident Planning at HMC and Consultant in Emergency Preparedness and Response department at Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in state of Qatar.
He is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine from Jordan Medical Council in 2007, and he is holding a master’s degree in Disaster Medicine from Italy and Belgium since 2004 and a second master’s in medical education from Maastricht University (Netherland) in 2010.
He is heavily involved and led the National Emergency and Disaster Management being the Coordinator of the National Health Emergency Management Committee at the MoPH.
He also serves as Medical Director, Emergency Medical Service Program, College of North Atlantic and Qatar and Chair of the Advisory Committee, Emergency Health Science, College of North Atlantic Qatar.
Locally, he is a member in many National Emergency Management Committees in the state of Qatar such Hamad International Airport Emergency and Safety Committee. Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar Petroleum. Member of the National Shelter Committee, Permanent Emergency Committee, Ministry of Interior - Qatar. Coordinator and Member of the Strategic Stockpile Committee, MoPH, and Member of Emergency Preparedness Committee MOPH which is the highest committee for Health Emergency Preparedness. He is Major Incident drill evaluator in state of Qatar.
Regionally and internationally he is holding the following Positions:
Member of Academy of Medical Educator, UK. Founder and Member of the scientific Committee of the Arab Diploma in Disaster Management for Health Professional, Egypt.
Member of the Regional Consultancy Committee for Disaster Safe Hospital, Regional Office for the East Mediterranean (EMRO), World Health Organization (WHO).
WHO Temporary Advisor and Expert, Emergency Preparedness and Humanitarian Action Program and International Health Regulation (2005). Regional Office for the East Mediterranean (EMROWHO). Temporary Advisor to WHO – EMRO in Disaster Risk Reduction.
Member of the International Working Group Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG) Manchester -UK.
Dr. AbouGalala is an International educator, instructor and course directors and developer of training courses and modules in Trauma, Adult and Pediatric Resuscitation, and Disaster Management affiliated with many international organizations such American College of Surgeon, European Resuscitation Councils and Advance life Support Groups (UK) and ICRC (Geneva). He is also a founding member of the Arab Resuscitation Council.
He helped in establishing Trauma and Disaster Management training centers in UAE, Oman, Egypt, Yemen, Sudan, Syria, Sudan, and Nigeria. Recently, he was selected as Member of the Global Development Committee, International Trauma Life Support, USA.
He is an International Speakers regionally and Internationally in Major Emergency and Disaster preparedness and response. He is supervisor of master’s degree research for European Master in Disaster Medicine students. He is also the Chief Editor of the Hazmat Life Support, 1st Edition.
