Title:Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS): Integrating POCUS with Clinical Reasoning - a hands-on workshop

Target audience: Physicians and residents/fellows only (Maximum 40 Participants)

Learning objectives: At the end of this workshop participants will have learnt:

1. How to generate and interpret bedside ultrasound images?

2. Sono - Anatomy and basic principles of physics and knobology.

3. Integrate ultrasound findings with clinical presentation.

4. Detection of free fluid in the abdomen, diagnose pneumo-thorax & pleural effusion at bedside.

5. Estimate ejection fraction (EF) and diagnose pericardial effusion.

Methods: It is hands-on sessions in groups of 5 candidates per station.

Title: Challenging cases in Endocrinology- Thyroid disorder, Dyslipidemia and more

Target audience: Physicians, residents/fellows, pharmacists, and students.

Learning objectives: At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

1. Outline the diagnostic investigations and management of common endocrine conditions (thyroid diseases, dyslipidemia, etc.)

2. Discuss the tactics of diagnosis and management of primary hypothyroidism such as fine tuning of thyroxine doses, interfering medications, increased requirement, and management in pregnancy.

3.Emphasize the recognition and management of subclinical hypothyroidism.

4. Recognize the optimum use of different pharmacological agents for the management of dyslipidemia.

Title: Inflammatory Bowel Disease – the gut and beyond the gut: addressing overlooked challenges and bridging Care in Internal Medicine

1. Understand the spectrum of IBD manifestations (intestinal and extra-intestinal).

2. Identify common extra-intestinal manifestations (e.g. musculoskeletal, ocular, dermatologic, … etc.).

3. Differentiate extra-intestinal manifestations of IBD from other systemic conditions with similar presentations.

4.Integrate a multidisciplinary approach in caring for IBD patients.

Title:New insights into management of diabetes in special populations

Learning objectives: This workshop aims to enhance and improve the process of diagnosis to select the most appropriate management plan for special populations of diabetic patients that include:

- Inpatient diabetic patients (hospitalized in medical and surgical wards)

- Diabetic patients with kidney disease

- Type 1 diabetic patients

- Obese diabetic patients (BMI>30)

Outcome: At the end of this workshop participants would have learnt the key elements of the diagnostic pathway which will help to optimize the treatment of these special diabetic population
