Dr. Aftab Azad
Acting Chairman, Emergency Department
Dr Aftab Mohammad Joined HMC in 2003. He successfully completed his Arab Board in Emergency Medicine(EM) in 2010. His passion to be an expert led him to join McGill EM residency Program and he graduated from McGill - Montreal, Canada in 2015, and joined Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School for Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship. He has been designated as the Site Director for HMC and First Regional Director of CPoCUS for the Middle East since March 2014. He is involved in teaching Point of Care Ultrasound Courses at local, regional, and international level since 2013. He received the award of Honor to be First Qatari Citizen who graduated from North American Emergency Medicine Training Programs in 2016. Currently he is working as an attending physician (Senior Consultant) in Emergency Medicine as well as Sports Medicine. He is the First Qatari Physician holding EM and Sports Medicine credentials from North America. Currently he is the Chairman of Emergency Medicine at HMC which has 7 emergency departments in addition to few satellite Emergency centers. He is Director of Emergency Medicine Point of Care Ultrasound, Program Director of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship, Assistant Professor at Weil Cornell Medical College Qatar & College of Medicine Qatar University, and Member of curriculum development faculty at Weil Cornell Medical College Qatar. He has been also appointed as Member Board of Directors – Gulf Federation of Emergency Medicine. He was nominated as Co – Chairman of National Task Force Toxicology Committee at MOPH Qatar. He has been appointed as elected Board Member of CPOUS from Dec 2022 and is the first Non-Canadian Member Board of Directors. He is passionate to improve the patient care as well as education using his and his team’s expertise in education and operations.
