The Department of Medical Education is a recognized CPD Provider. All CPD activities organized and conducted by the clinical departments at HMC or in partnership with other healthcare organizations are awarded CPD credits. HMC works closely with the Ministry of Public Health-Qatar to achieve international accreditation for all continuing education activities offered to physicians and healthcare professionals at HMC. CPD activities organized by HMC are also accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada. In addition, Hamad Medical Corporation is a permanent member of the GCC Council for Continuing Education and Professional Development for Healthcare Professionals. CPD activities delivered by HMC are accredited by the GCC Council for CPD.

The Hamad Medical Corporation ‐ Continuing Professional Development (Hamad‐CPD) Program is chaired by Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, the Director of the Medical Education.

Our aim is to deliver high quality hospital-based and community-based continuing professional education activities for physicians, academic and learners.

Mission

The mission of Hamad Medical Corporation ‐ Continuing Professional Development Program is to foster excellence in evidence‐informed professional development and scholarly activities that meet the educational needs of healthcare practitioners while supporting compliance with national licensing requirements and promoting the advancement of knowledge, skills and practice for effective person‐centered care.

Target Audience

Hamad-CPD Program is designed to support the professional development of all healthcare practitioners including but not exclusively: allied health professions, dentists, laboratory scientists, midwives, nurses, pharmacists, and physicians, practicing both at Hamad Medical Corporation and outside the Corporation, within the state of Qatar.

Goals

  • Hamad‐CPD Program is designed to provide continuing professional education activities for healthcare practitioners to maintain and extend their knowledge, skills, behaviors and competencies with the ultimate goal of facilitating the provision of the best possible care, improved patient outcomes, and protecting patient safety.
  • Hamad‐CPD Program accomplishes its mission by identifying the professional practice gaps of individual healthcare practitioners, professional groups, and inter‐professional healthcare teams.
  • The Hamad‐CPD Program will incorporate up‐to‐date evidence‐based content and use appropriate learning and teaching strategies to design and deliver educational activities to maximize individual, professional specific and inter‐professional learning and where appropriate

Functions

Hamad-CPD Program embeds five core competencies: incorporating the knowledge, skills and attitudes required by healthcare practitioners to provide patient-centered care; work in Inter-professional teams; employ evidence-based practice; apply quality improvement methods and utilize informatics.

All CPD activities are aligned with the strategic initiatives adopted by the corporation aiming to improve the quality of patient safety and healthcare in Qatar. Whether physicians are involved in patient care, teaching and education, research, leadership or quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, CPD activities support their commitment to lifelong learning, practice improvement and quality patient care. They help physicians to meet their personal and professional development needs as well as any requirements for the maintenance of certification and medical licensure. Our services also support CPD activities for healthcare professionals and physicians working in the community and other hospitals in the State of Qatar.

Expected Results

We expect to improve learner knowledge, skills, behaviors, and impact on outcomes as a result of active participation in continuing professional development educational activities through Hamad CPD Program. We anticipate that our mission is met through the conduct of effective continuing professional development activities and the use of appropriate evaluation tools and approaches.
