Investigator Initiated Sponsored Research

Many pharmaceutical companies are committed to improving patient care through the support of scientific advances in medicine and increasing understanding of important diseases. As part of this commitment, the Investigator Initiated Sponsored Research supports innovative clinical and basic science studies that address important medical and scientific questions related to our compounds and therapeutic areas of interest.

In this type of independent researches, the investigator or the institution serves as the sponsor and the pharmaceutical company provides support in the form of study drug and/or funding. The research application submitted through this type of funding channel might have gone through a complete review by the medical and scientific personnel of the company. Pharmaceutical company’s decision to fund the research will be strictly based upon scientific merit as well as alignment with research areas of interest and availability of resources. Support of a study in no way implies any obligation toward or is in any way connected to the recommendation or prescribing of awarded company products.

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF)

In Qatar, the premier research grants funding center is the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a part of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. QNRF offers a whole host of programs and details of these can be found in their below link under the tab ‘Funding’: http://www.qnrf.org/en-us/

There are programs such as QNRF’s flagship National Priorities Research Program (NPRP), the National Priorities Research Program - Exceptional (NPRP-EP), and the Joint Funding Research Programs (JFRP), which fall under the category of research programs offered by QNRF.

Capacity building programs include the Junior Scientists Research Experience Program (JSREP), Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP), Graduate Student Research Awards (GSRA) and the Postdoctoral Research Awards (PDRA). JSREP and PDRA are very relevant to researchers at HMC who are just embarking on their research career or recruiting eligible postdoctoral candidates. UREP offers HMC researchers a great opportunity to mentor undergraduate projects and students with academic institutions within Qatar.

Special programs like the Conferences and Workshop Sponsorship Program (CWSP) provide HMC researchers with an opportunity to secure a funding source for bringing relevant conferences and workshops to HMC and Qatar at large.
