Funding opportunities in MRC by type:

1. MRC Routine Continuous Funds:

The Medical Research Center’s Routine Continuous Fund provides an open channel for researchers in HMC. This is a continuous support extended by MRC to encourage researchers. All research proposals with scientific merit and appropriate protection of human and animal participants will be eligible to get funded to conduct their research. This funding channel continues throughout the year.

Budget: The maximum amount that may be requested through Routine Continuous Grants is QR100,000.

The budget can be prepared and planned before submitting to MRC. Researchers can contact MRC to get support during budget preparation.

This funding opportunity is open throughout the year and applications will be accepted via our ABHATH-E submission system.

2. MRC - Internal Research Grants Cycle (IRGC)

MRC’s Internal Research Grant Cycle is a funding opportunity designed to encourage researchers irrespective of where they are in their research career and aims to:
  • Improve HMC competitiveness and academic standing
  • Increase research activity within HMC
  • Allow HMC researchers to generate pilot data that can be incorporated into a grant application to national or international funding agency
  • Foster activity that will lead to publication or other tangible outcomes that advance HMC’s research scenario
  • Improve the impact of the research undertaken in HMC
This is a competitive funding opportunity and proposals will undergo a rigorous review process by the internal and external reviewers. Applications submitted in this category should be of high scientific quality and of relevance to Qatar and the patients we serve. Senior awards should be led by investigators with a track record in delivering of research projects that have led to publications in high impact journals.

MRC is designed to accommodate two cycles per year; collaboration with other partners in Qatar is encouraged, but with a limitation of not more than 20 percent of budget allocated for the collaborator’s expenses.

1. Senior Investigators Award - This is for mid-career or established researchers in their field. Each project can be awarded up to QR1 million and projects should be between one and three years in duration.

2. New Investigators Award - Aimed at consultants / clinical staff who may have less than two years, or no, research experience and wish to develop their skills and areas of interest further. The purpose is to support and encourage the development of high quality, scientifically peer reviewed research by the principal investigators of the future and encourage career development in research. It is expected that a senior researcher acts as a supervisor and mentor on these studies. Each research project will be awarded up to QR500,000 for projects of one to three years duration.

3. Residents and Fellows - This is aimed at more junior researchers. Funding available per project is QR250,000 and the applicant must have an identified HMC or external senior researcher as a supervisor.

Please note that the majority of the activity should be undertaken within HMC.
