The Pre-analytic Service is one of the largest services in the DLMP with over 100 phlebotomists and central processing staff. The Services include Phlebotomy, a Phlebotomy training Program, Central Processing for receiving and handling specimens, transportation services for delivery of specimens, and the Referral Service for sending out specimen requests to reference laboratories.
The Pre-analytic Phlebotomy provides services to all facilities in the Hamad Medical Corporation network, performing over half a million blood collections per year. The Phlebotomy Program was established to fill the demand for improving skills in blood collection from patients by nursing staff and students. It is the first of its kind program within the State of Qatar. It includes specialized training for difficult patient phlebotomy such as neonates, pediatrics, elderly, obese and bed ridden patients. Phlebotomists are highly trained to perform a perfect blood draw for every patient and leave a positive patient experience.
Our transport fleet ensures that specimens are delivered promptly 24/7 from remote sites to the correct testing laboratories. The Central Processing Area ensures integrity of specimens, proper handling, meeting of specimen acceptability criteria and delivery to the correct laboratory and closely with the Clinical Services to resolve all specimen issues such as mislabeled specimens, missing specimens, incorrectly collected specimens etc.
The Pre-analytic Referral Service provides a valuable service to identify, process and safely transport specimens to specialized Laboratories internationally that perform highly specialized tests not available at HMC.
