Sergio Matarraz, PhD

Sergio Matarraz holds a PhD from the Medicine Department of the University of Salamanca (Spain). Here he obtained the highest grade “Cum Laude” in 2009 and the “Extraordinary Doctoral Thesis Award” in 2010 with his work entitled “Immunophenotypic Characterization of Myelodysplastic Syndromes.” Currently, Dr. Mararraz works full-time as a Posdoctoral Researcher at the Cytometry Service in the Cancer Research Center (CIC) at the University of Salamanca. His main scientific contributions are focused on immunophenotyping of myelodysplastic syndromes and acute leukemias. He has contributed to 41 publications and made more than 200 contributions to scientific events. In addition, Sergio Matarraz also contributes as the Disease Category-Leader of the Myelodysplastic Syndrome/Acute Leukemia working package within the EuroFlow Consortium and participates on the Scientific Board of the European LeukemiaNet MDS working group, the Iberian Society of Cytometry (SIC) and the European Society for Clinical Cell Analysis (ESCCA). 
 
Sergio Matarraz has been honoured consecutively with the Young Investigator Award by the International Society for Laboratory Hematology (ISLH) and International Clinical Cytometry Society (ICCS) together with two consecutive Mentions in the “Scientific Merits” by the Spanish Council of Scientific Research (CSIC).
