Dirk Deleu is Sr. Consultant and former Head of Neurology & Neurophysiology at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Doha, Qatar and Full Professor Clinical Neurology & Neurosciences at Weill Cornell Medical College - Qatar.
Dr. Dirk graduated from the University of Brussels, Belgium in 1983 and finished his residency program in neurology/neurophysiology in 1988 at the same institution. While being clinician, he continued his research and obtained his PhD from the same University.
In 1993, he took up the position of associate professor clinical pharmacology and therapeutics and consultant neurologist at Sultan Qaboos University and its University Hospital, where he later became Head of Department. In 2003, he joined HMC. Under his leadership the stroke service at Hamad General Hospital successfully obtained JCI accreditation and the residency program neurology was established.
Dr. Deleu has conducted numerous clinical trials and has published extensively with over 200 peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters. His current research interest is in multiple sclerosis and posterior circulation stroke. In view of the growing need, he has committed himself to develop a dedicated center for multiple sclerosis within the Neuroscience Institute of HMC.
