Senior Consultant Pediatrics - Neonatologist and Head of the Newborn Screening Unit Women Wellness and Research Center, HMC
Dr Ghassan Abdoh is a Senior Consultant Pediatrics - Neonatologist and Head of the Newborn Screening Unit at (WWRC) Women Wellness and Research Center in Doha-Qatar.
Dr Ghassan leads many unique projects that ensure early detection of disease conditions and early detection of warning signs of deterioration in newborns.
He is the Lead of Qatar Newborn Early Warning System (QNEWS) and played an instrumental role in the planning and implementation of this program.
Dr. Ghassan got training and qualification and held the certificate of postgraduate medical study in neonatal screening for metabolic and endocrine diseases from The University Children Hospital in Heidelberg - Germany (UCH). He participated in the planning, implementation and maintenance of the Qatari National Neonatal Screening Program in collaboration with The Newborn Screening and Metabolic Center in The University Children Hospital- Heidelberg- Germany. The program was granted the HMC Stars of Excellence Award in 2010.
Dr Ghassan is a founder member of Middle East Metabolic Group (MEMG) and member of many international societies in newborn screening.
He organized and lectured in many local, regional and international scientific meetings in neonatal medicine and newborn screening in many countries all over the world.
He has published several papers and first authored a handbook on newborn screening. His main interest is in planning and implementation of newborn screening programs and in Homocystinurea and re-methylation disorders.
