Message from the Program Director


Our program provides the utmost training for the anesthetist to be capable and expert while taking care of all serious surgical patients with life threatening conditions or unstable, severely ill patients.

Description

Our program philosophy is based on comprehensive education, advanced postgraduate subspecialty training and commitment to deliver the safest and most effective perioperative care for patients as an Academic Health System. 

Hamad General Hospital is the main site of our program however our fellows might be requested to cover clinical duties in other hospitals of Hamad Medical Corporation. 

Our program is a three years program. We have trained so far, a number of fellows, and some of them are now core faculty members.

Goals

The main goal of this fellowship program is to train the fellows to become highly skilled and to be exposed to high-risk patients undergoing advanced surgical procedures in the following fields:

  1. To learn thoracic anesthesia.
  2. To learn anesthesia for esophageal, diaphragmatic and gastric surgery.
  3. To learn major vascular surgery and Major trauma anesthesia.
  4. To learn cardiac anesthesia.
  5. To learn anesthesia for transplant surgery (currently liver, kidney, pancreas and lung) and hepatobiliary surgery.
  6. To learn anesthesia for major arthroplasty, spine procedures and acute pain management.
  7. To learn anesthesia for bariatric surgery.
  8. To learn anesthesia for robotic surgery.
  9. To learn maxillofacial anesthesia and airway reconstructive surgery.
  10. To learn fundamentals of critical care medicine.
  11. The fellow will learn how to teach anesthesia and perioperative medicine and will be involved in the teaching process of our residents, interns, and medical students
  12. The fellow will learn how to design and conduct a research project and will be involved in at least one research project.
