Dr. Asma El Hassan
Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist, NCCCR
Dr. Asma Mohamed Elhassan is a Senior Consultant in Medical Oncology at NCCCR. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Khartoum University. She received training in oncology in both Sudan and Sweden. She obtained the Swedish Board in Clinical Oncology certificate from the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare in 1989, and a Master of Medical Science in the field of oncology from Lund University in 1990. She has several publications in well-recognized medical Journals.
She worked as a consultant at the National Center of Cancer (formerly the Radioisotope and Radiation Center, RICK) in Khartoum, Sudan, from 1990 to 1997. She was involved in teaching medical students, postgraduate students for the Sudanese MD, and students at the Institute of Medical Radiological Sciences in Khartoum, Sudan. She was invited several times as an external examiner after moving to Qatar.
Dr. Asma joined the Department of Oncology/Hematology at HMC in 1998 and has been actively involved in the department's activities since then. These activities include teaching residents for the Arab Board, training fellows in the Medical Oncology specialty, and being heavily involved in Breast and Ovarian Cancer Awareness initiatives in Qatar and Sudan.
Dr. Asma is the Head of Subspeciality of Rare Cancer, including Sarcoma, CNS, and dermatology cancer, and a core member of the gynecology oncology MDT as well.
She is also interested in Personalized Medicine and Molecular Biology and serves as a member of the tumor board.
Dr. Asma is also a member of several international committees, like the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society for Medical Oncology.
