Prof. Amjad Parvaiz

Professor Amjad Parvaiz is an internationally renowned colorectal surgeon specializing in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He obtained his MBBS from King Edward Medical University, Lahore, in 1992. His earlier surgical training took place in South Africa from 1993-1998 before arriving in England in 1999.  He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow and RCS England.

He worked as consultant colorectal surgeon at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth UK from 2006 – 2016. He established both laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery at Portsmouth before moving to Poole General Hospital in Dorset from 2016-2020. Currently, he serves as the Head of Laparoscopic & Robotic Colorectal Surgery at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal, and is a Consultant and Head of Robotic Surgery at Hamad General Hospital, Qatar. Additionally, he holds a professorship at the University of Portsmouth, honorary professor at the University of Belgrade and Visiting Professor at Dow Medical University Karachi.

A pioneer in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, Professor Parvaiz has performed and supervised over 5000 laparoscopic and robotic colorectal resections, contributing significantly to training and research. He played a key role in the UK's National Training Programme (Lapco), setting up and delivering the National Serbian laparoscopic colorectal training programme (LAPSERB) and founded the European Academy of Robotic Colorectal Surgery (EARCS). His research contributions include over 250 peer-reviewed publications and multiple book chapters.

Recognized globally for his contributions, he has received numerous awards, including a National award for Excellence in teaching and training from Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovakia, Portugal and Pakistan. He has trained surgeons across Europe, Africa, and Asia, establishing international centers of excellence in colorectal surgery. His expertise has led to groundbreaking advancements in robotic rectal surgery, making him one of the leading figures in his field.
