Dr. Shamim has joined anesthesia residency program in Aga Khan University, Karachi in year 2000, and became Faculty in 2005. He joined Surgical Intensive Care Unit from January 2011. He has pursued a wide range of clinical, educational, research and administrative interests to date. His special interest is Difficult Airway Management; US-guided Regional Anesthesia and Critical Care. In November 2019, at World Airway Management Meeting (WAMM) Amsterdam, he was awarded ‘Tuoren Exchange Program Award’ by WAMM and International Airway Management Society (IAMS).
For his remarkable contribution towards teaching and education, the University presented him ‘Outstanding Teaching Award’ for year 2016. Dr. Shamim has also been given ‘Faculty Development Award’ for training and experience in Intensive Care for which he did hands on clinical attachment at Galway University Hospitals, Ireland for three months.
He has over forty publications in various international and national indexed journals to his credit. He was also the National Lead/Coordinator for the COVID-19 airway management project – intubate COVID, a global registry initiated by The Difficult Airway Society (UK), in association with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK.
