Dr. Buthaina Ibrahim Alowinati is a distinguished physician and leading expert in endocrinology and diabetes. Her career is characterized by a steadfast commitment to clinical excellence, medical education, and advancing research in her field.
She began her medical training at the King Faisal University's College of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Saudi Arabia, where she earned her MD in 1993.
She then pursued her residency in internal medicine at Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha-Qatar, commencing in 1994. Whilst working in the Department of Medicine at Hamad Medical Corporation, she discovered her passion for endocrinology and diabetes, ultimately specializing in these areas. Her dedication and expertise led to her appointment as a Senior Consultant in 2000, a position she continues to hold.
Throughout her career, Dr. Buthaina Alowinati has consistently sought the highest standards of medical practice. She is board-certified by the Arab Board of Medicine, achieving certification in 2001. Furthermore, her contributions to the field of endocrinology were recognized in 2012 when she was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology.
Amongst her accolades, she is also a SCOPE certified healthcare practitioner with expertise in obesity management and has completed the Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program from Harvard Medical School.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Buthaina Alowinati is a passionate advocate for medical education. She holds the position of Assistant Professor at Qatar University Medical School and is a valued Faculty Member at Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar. Her commitment to nurturing future generations of medical professionals is evident in her dedication to teaching and mentorship.
In September 2023, Dr. Buthaina Alowinati took on a new role as Director of the National Obesity Treatment Center, Qatar Metabolic Institute.
