Itqan Hosts Healthcare Simulation Activities

The 2023 Healthcare Simulation Week, a global celebration of healthcare simulation was a grand success this year at HMC.

Each day, the Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Center team visited a different hospital to demonstrate to the clinical and non-clinical staff, as well as visitors, how different types of simulation can be used to support education for their staff. We took manikins, task trainers, and virtual reality equipment to Al Wakra Hospital, Women’s Wellness and Research Center, Ambulatory Care Center, Hamad General Hospital, and Heart Hospital. Also, each day, a recorded webinar by Dr Suzan Kardong-Edgren about simulation ‘hot topics’ was available to view.

Each day in the Itqan lobby, we exposed visitors, including healthcare staff and students to simulation by having them participate in applying moulage (make-up and props) to manikins to make realistic wounds. Our cardiovascular model Harvey also made an appearance for the opportunity to listen to all the different types of heart sounds, both normal and abnormal, a person can have. The most active part of the lobby was in the photo booth where visitors were invited to have tea and gather for a selfie with our traditionally dressed Qatari family of manikins. Various props were available and livened up the photos!

A raffle was held for those who participated in a quiz about Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Center and the questions were not easy! The goal was for people to learn more about Itqan and all answers were available through our website: https://www.hamad.qa/EN/Education-and-research/SIM/Pages/default.aspx Six lucky winners received a year’s membership to one of the major simulation organizations!

Last, but not least was Movie Night! This was a staff family highlight last year and this year we were able to invite all those who facilitate simulation activities at Itqan. More than families gathered for a tour, snacks, and to watch the Lion King. Great fun was had by all!
