​The Medical Records/Health Information Management Department is responsible for overseeing the timely processing, completion, and when necessary, retrieval of all patient medical records. 

Our department offers a wide range of services, using an approach which is based on collaboration and information sharing to enhance patient care, whilst ensuring strict patient confidentiality. Medical records services are provided to all departments within Hamad General Hospital, as appropriate to need. Medical record services include provision of an accurate patient record, with emphasis on the following:
  • Record processing & completion
  • Record abstracting, analysis and coding
  • Transcription of dictation for medical records
  • Correspondence
  • Record retrieval, filing and storage.
The scope of services within the department also encompasses efforts made to provide:
  • Improved data accuracy
  • Demonstrated balance of proper levels of security versus ease of access
  • Use of aggregate data, available through computerized reporting, to assist all healthcare providers with information that allows identification of opportunities to improve performance
  • Medical records which are accessible at all times but restricted only to authorized personnel on a need to know basis for patient care.
