Dr. Nabila Al-Meer
Deputy Chief for Continuing Care Group and Ministry of Public Health Nursing Affairs
“It is incredible to look back on the past 40 years and see the progress and change across HMC. In 1981, along with two other Qatari nurse leaders, I was appointed to commission Hamad General Hospital (HGH) and worked with a team of American Nurse Leaders.
We began Nursing Staff Development in1981 and all nurses were required to take several courses before they moved to HGH - gradually these courses increased according to nursing specialties. Infection Control and Quality Management also started in 1981 under the leadership of the Nursing Department and later became a separate department on a corporate level.
I am proud that in my executive role at HMC spanning over four decades I have achieved significant influence on strategic planning, decision making related to transforming nursing education and practice, nursing regulation, and corporate expansion. I was one of the Qatari nurses involved in the commissioning of HMC’s new facilities, notably the establishment of the home care service which is the first in the region to be Joint Commission International Accredited.
It has been a rewarding experience for me to be given the opportunity to play a significant role in HMC journey to achieve international recognition as a leading health care facility for health care excellence.”
