“I joined the Ministry of Public Health in July 1979, and at that time Hamad General Hospital was still under construction. I then joined the newly formed Primary Health Care before transferring to HMC a few years later.
When Rumailah Hospital was opened in1957 it was considered by many to be a state-of-the-art hospital in the Middle East. Yet the opening of HGH provided a big step forward in the advancement of workforce, services and technologies. HGH still continues and I am proud that itis one of the best general hospitals in the region.
If we look back at the scale of change it is almost beyond comprehension. Just imagine the ambulances used in the 1970s were ordinary suburban cars without any equipment and operated with a driver and technician if available. Today we have some of the most sophisticated and advanced technology available in the world, right across our system.
I think in Qatar we are blessed, and thankful, for the endless support of our Government and health authorities towards the health sector at all levels. Finally, we are proud to say that HMC provides high-quality healthcare services to the population of Qatar.”
