Dr. Zsolt Lengyel graduated from University Medical School of Debrecen, Hungary in 1996. He started his professional career as a radiologist then turned to Nuclear Medicine and got his Specialization Diploma in 2001. He worked for 10 years in the PET Center of Debrecen University where he was involved in clinical PET diagnostics and research, as well as in teaching. His activity included PET reporting in the field of Oncology, Neurology and Cardiology with FDG, 11C-methionin, 15O-butanol tracers, tracer development, small animal imaging, brain activation studies, myocardial viability imaging, fusion of different imaging modalities, brain atlas techniques, development of imaging protocols and quantification tools. His group was the first in Hungary to report on early changes of FDG-uptake in high grade lymphomas treated with chemotherapy and radiation. He successfully obtained his PhD degree as the Assistant Professor of Debrecen University in 2004 based on PET studies of the radiation induced sequalae of the spinal cord. Starting from 2005 he worked as Medical Director of Pozitron-Diagnosztika Kft Budapest, Hungary, a privately-owned imaging center. Under his leadership Pozitron performed more than 6000 clinical PET studies yearly using FDG and less frequently 18F-DOPA, 11C-Acetate and 18F-Choline tracers. He was involved in the work of Tumor Boards in the Oncology Centre of Semmelweis University and the National Institute of Oncology, Budapest. He conducted activities as Consultant in Bethesda Children’s Hospital, Budapest for childhood epilepsy cases. He is a member of the steering committee of the “Hevesy György” Hungarian Society of Nuclear Medicine and the Hungarian Professional College of Nuclear Medicine. He published 30 papers in peer reviewed journals and wrote 4 book chapters. He recently obtained the degree of Doctor Habilitatus at Pecs University, Hungary in 2017.
